H I S T O R Y  . . .

 

The Gemerian region´s small village is Lekenye. The village is situated on border of Slovak Karst and Gemerian Ore Montains, and belong to the district of Kosice. The old name of the village was: Lokuna, Lekune, Lekenya. The first written relic is from 1243, when king Béla IV give the territory to the Ákos nation.

 

            The village from the begining was farmer settlement. The founders were changeing lot, because they were transporters, woodmen, coalburners. After the Turkish domination the  lords got a part of the village. From 1427 the family Forgách and  on the end of the Middle Ages family Széchy was the owner of the village. Between 1710 and 1720 so much people died in the plague. In 1773 were lived in Lekenye 231 family (4 cottar family).


The village have two church´s. The Reformed Church was built in the end of the 15th century in late Gothic style. The ceiling and choir is colorous painted and the shingle roofed belltower was finished in the 18th century. The church was restored between 1993 and 2006. The Evagelical Church was built in 1902 and was renovated in 1990 and 2005.

The nearest small village, Tiba, belong to Lekenye from 1927. Tiba was establish in the second half of the 13th century. The name Tiba got from one noble, Tiba. The settlement owned the Plettrich family from 1728. Ferenc Paukovich was built the village-house in Tiba in the second half of the 18th century which is standing to currently time.

At now, Lekenye have 305 inhabitants. The 90% of the inhabitants belong to the Hungarian nationality. The village is laying near the first class road number 50, and is very easy to approach with bus or train. The bicyle route is goes cross over the village.


The community have: Turist Information Centre, grocer´s, pub, two pitchs: football and basketball, ground and library. Hunting and fishing is possible in the countryside. The pasqueflower (pulsatilla grandis), which is protected flower, flowered all spring on the nearest cliff in Tiba.

 

 

 In the village acts some organization: Csemadok, Lekenye´s Youth Association, Pensioner´s Club, Skalica Hunter´s Company. The Lekenye´s Voluntary Firefighters works in the settlement, and the youth people monthly give out the Village´s News.

 

 

In the village were been organizated all year some activities:

SPRING

  • carnival ball for adults
  • Mother´s Day with culture programme
  • campfire

SUMMER

  • Sport Day, where at forenoon is craftsman and sport activity, at afternoon football match, and the evening disco

AUTUMN

  • Pensioner´s Day with culture programme

WINTER

  • Santa Claus Day on 6th of December
  • Christmas programme
